Scott Wurcer from Cambridge Mass passed away on March 18, at the age of 74. Scott was one of those people who made a technical contribution to audio that can hardly be overstated. His analog IC designs for Analog Devices are legendary for their creative design and extremely high performance. Scott loved a good life, and I shared many exquisite meals and great wines with him. I will miss him.
But his contributions go much further than audio. The ground-breaking discoveries of gravitational waves by the LIGO gravitational wave detector have much to thank to Scott’s extremely high-performance analog ICs. Scott was an Analog Devices fellow, and it is said that ADI sold over one billion dollars worth of his ICs.
Scott was very generous with his talents and knowledge, frequently contributing to the diyaudio.com forum as well as writing for my bookzine series Linear Audio and the trade press. As a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology he set high and rigorous standards for himself in all his activities. After retirement, he took up Chinese painting and, typically, quickly became a recognized artist.
Scott loved a good life, and I shared many exquisite meals and great wines with him. I will miss him.
